Looking for an activity to get into the holiday spirit? Magic of Lights Daytona located at the Daytona International Speedway is a great choice for Christmas holiday lights! Located right off I-4 in Daytona Beach, about an hour northeast of Orlando. This is the 4th year of the event, it runs from Nov 13-Jan 2rd, 2020. There are over 1 million lights! This event was another great option for holiday activities to add to The Goofy 5 holiday tradition in 2020, with social distancing!
We went on a Saturday at 7:30 pm, and the line to enter the Speedway was LONG. Coming from the North or East (by the ocean) appeared to significantly shorten the wait time. As turning into the speedway at the light on Bill France Boulevard was the longest part of entering. Once past the light, there are 2 lines. For the shortest wait make sure you buy the Dash Pass and come in from the East or North.
This is a drive through event. Driving through the lights took about 30 minutes in total. It was a nice slow drive where our teens were able to stand and watch through the sunroof. This is the 4th year of this event but the first time we attended.
Sections of the lights included areas such as Christmas, Toyland, Candy Cane Lane, a Light Tunnel, 12 days of Christmas, etc. There is a radio station for carols as well. A fun, different part of this event was getting to drive under the stadium stands.

Tips for Enjoying the Magic of Lights Daytona
The Goofy 5 all enjoyed this event. It is a drive from Orlando though. We all agreed we would not have enjoyed it as much if we had to wait in the very long line we saw when we were leaving! Here are our tips.
- Buy the dash pass this avoids some of the car entry line.
- Approach the Speedway from the North or East instead of from the west from I-4.
- Go during the week or get there when it opens at 6.
- If driving from Orlando, make a day of it and start at the beach! We always enjoy walking the boardwalk at Daytona.
